Is it safe to send my bank account number in an email attachment?

There are two parts to this question:

1) Can other people use my acc. no. to withdraw my money?

2) Is this a safe method of transfer?|||No, you can do it on a document and make it an attachment with password encryption. Make sure you do not include the password in the e-mail.

This is my help from Washington, D.C. USA.|||1) No, They can only pay in money with your account number.

2) Yes, It is safe, Just DONT send the long number on the front of your card with expiry date, security code, etc. (If its a card account) only send sort code and account number. (Nothing can be done with these numbers except pay money into your account) (You need to answer all your own private personal security questions before transfering money)|||I wouldn't take the risk|||don't do it... bad idea...|||i wouldn't you never know what could happen|||NEVER EVER SEND personal information such as bank account number, credit card numbers over the internet.

Any person asking for such information over the internet is most likely a scam artist. No legitimate business would ever ask you to send this type of personal information over the internet.|||Absolutely not, or your card details, date of birth or any other personal details.

1%26gt; they can try

2%26gt; don't know what you mean sorry.|||They can use your acc. # to transfer money into another account and then withdraw the money.

It is not a safe way.|||I'm actually a Customer Service Rep. and I personally tell customers not to send it but you wouldn't believe the overwhelming amount that do anyway!

It's unsafe for a few diff. reasons.

* how can you be sure the person you sent it to doesn't have a "virus" that someone else ( a hacker) can see

* what if the person was a crook and decided to "use" your card?? most banks wouldn't cover you

* what if the e-mail address is typed wrong? now who knows who has your card #

like I said before I have always suggested our customers call our c.s. dept.|||I personally wouldn't do it. It can be intercepted by any individual with basic computer skills, it can also be viewed by the next person to enter through your e-mail box since most e-mails are recorded in the sent folder.

I know it may sounds crazy since people even bank on-line.. However you have to worry for your end:

- Is your connection secure? (Wireless connections have weak protocols = hackable)

- Will it be saved in your outgoing mail folder (Will someone be able to get to it if they get to your in-box?)

Now the other end:

Will they be the only ones to see this?

Will they delete the email after the information is recorded?

Will their end of the transmission be secured?

Even with the above said, I would really think about it. It would be safe if you placed a call and provided them with the information. With a call you can rest assured that you told that individual and that no one picked up the information.|||your account number is not your card number.no they can not take money out.but as reguards sending your number split it into x parts and send several e mails.hope this helps|||I would say yes its ok.

Every time you write a cheque for someone and give it to them you are giving your account name, number and sort code.

How many cheques are written every day?

With this info people can pay into your account not withdraw from it.|||You don't explain exactly what you want to do.

Anyway, I would never send account information as an e-mail attachment - unless I encrypted it and the recipient had the means to unencrypt it. If you send enough information for the intended recipient to access your money, anyone else that gets the information could access your money.

I frequently pay bills on-line, using either credit card information or bank account information, but it is always on secure sites, on the recipient's website, not some third party (I guess you could use paypal, I don't).|||yes people can use your acc. no. to withdraw your money and NO its NEVER a safe method to transfer. please do be so very careful when you put ur acc. details in cuz u never know who u are really dealing with, thers been so many people conned and fooled about wen they giv ther bank details online on these websites and emails, theres that many scams on pcs lol.|||1. Nobody can simply use your account number to withdraw money from your account.

2. If you are transferring only the account number via e-mail, it is safe. If you transfer other sensitive personal data via e-mail, or even request for money transfers, it is unsafe.|||I personally wouldn't do it. It can be intercepted by any individual with basic computer skills, it can also be viewed by the next person to enter through your e-mail box since most e-mails are recorded in the sent folder.
