I went to one college, (ACC), transferred to another 2 year college (HVCC) that has my major, but want the courses I get fro LIb Arts/ Math, Science, Psychology etc to go back to the first 2 year. (Both are community colleges in different towns, SUNY.
This semester I got a bit over a 3.0 GPA in my new college (HVCC), up from like a 2.1 or so from the first (ACC) Plus I had not attended college since 2003. Now at the first college ACC, I took
elementary Algebra and withdrew from it Three times... so I had ZERO math on my transcript. This past semester at my new (HVCC) college I took "High School Math", which was:
Intermediate Algebra with Trigonometry. It was much higher than what I had done before but I had the time to do it right and got a B in it.
SO now to the point:
After I am finished with all the gen ed courses, the math, science, psychology, etc can I transfer them BACK to the first college (ACC) from where I am now (HVCC)? I mainly want one BIO/ one Psychology, and the Math to go, but I will be taking two psychology and three bio's all together.|||Why do you want to do that? At this point, after finishing your "gen ed" classes, you should be planning to transfer to a 4 year college. At the community college level, you will not be offered any higher level, or advanced classes.
Here are some things to know: If you are transferring to CC within the same state system, they probably have "transfer agreements" so that there Gen Ed classes are usually equivalent.
No courses below a C will transfer anywhere.
Courses that are considered "remedial" (i.e. Not college level) will not transfer for credit, but will count toward satisfaction of pre-requisites.
Your GRADES do NOT transfer! So if you transfer BACK to the CC where you got low grades, you are stuck with them - the higher grades will not count toward your cumulative GPA.
If you transfer all your courses, from both CC's to a 4 year college, you start over with a blank slate as far as your grades are concerned. Your credits will probably transfer (if you stay in the same state), but you get a chance to start over as far as grades are concerned.
Check with your transfer counselor as to what courses will transfer. You might be able to look this up yourself online. In NJ there is a central "clearing house" for courses at all the colleges/universities in the state, so students can see what courses transfer to which colleges within the state. Perhaps New York has something similar. If not, see your transfer counselor.
